LASER TEETH WHITENING: HOW DOES IT WORK?

Laser Teeth Whitening is a procedure carried out to solve the problem of teeth discoloration or yellow teeth. It is a highly effective process due to its minimally invasive nature, whereby it treats the affected parts of the teeth without affecting the surrounding areas. This procedure cannot be performed by people in their homes, and is exclusively performed in a dental office. Manipal Hospitals one of the best dental hospitals in Bangalore and a renowned center for laser teeth whitening at HAL Airport Road and the surrounding areas. It is equipped with the required facilities and skilled manpower to perform this procedure flawlessly.

How does laser teeth whitening work? There are a series of steps in this procedure:

·   Screening: The dentist checks if the root of the teeth are exposed due to receding of the gums. If they are, other alternatives are recommended as the root of the teeth are resistant to the bleach and hence may result in an uneven bleaching.

·  Cleaning and Filling: Next, the dentist cleans the teeth thoroughly and ensures any cavities, if present, are treated and filled in order to prevent the whitening solution from penetrating to the interior of the teeth.  Also, a non-steroid, anti-inflammation medication is also given before the first whitening session.

· Whitening: Before the procedure begins, a rubber dam is placed inside the patient’s mouth so that their gums are protected. Next, a layer of strong bleaching gel is applied to their teeth. This bleach is a hydrogen peroxide gel with normal pH levels and concentration of about 25 to 40 percent. The dentist then uses a hand-held laser to activate this compound. As a result, it develops foam and removes the stains on the teeth. After all of the teeth are whitened by the laser, the bleach is allowed to remain for a few minutes before it is wiped out using a vacuuming equipment. This process is then repeated for up to three times to give the best possible result. At the end of the whitening session, the protective covering over the gums is removed.

There are many benefits of laser teeth whitening. The entire process takes about an hour before any visible improvements are seen. As compared to other methods such as whitening strips or special toothpastes which only remove superficial or surface stains, this process penetrates deep to remove the stains at their core. It is a non-invasive procedure with no after-effects, i.e. it does not damage the enamel. It also lasts longer than other treatment options, though of course, the longevity of this whitening effect depends on good oral hygienic practices.
